DIVERSE GROUP SEEKS TO ELEVATE AWARENESS OF THE REALITIES OF SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE

The Big Three:  New Taxes, Job Losses and Government Run Health Care

A group of business organizations, healthcare providers, health plans, brokers and labor unions representing thousands of individuals and businesses launched a campaign today aimed at raising awareness about the impact of legislation creating a single payer healthcare system. The Realities of Single Payer is an effort to educate the public about the consequences that a single payer healthcare system would have on both individuals and businesses in New York State.

“Government-run health insurance is not only impractical, it would be a financial disaster for New York taxpayers,” said Heather C. Briccetti, Esq., president and CEO of The Business Council of New York State, Inc. “There is tremendous confusion among the public regarding this issue. We’re launching this joint effort to give people the facts about government-run health insurance. Despite the claims of advocates, New York can’t magically provide everyone unlimited access to better care without sending our economy into a tailspin. The reality is that this is a fiscally reckless proposal which would add up to $200 billion in new taxes and cause thousands of jobs to disappear.”

About Realities of Single Payer

The Realities of Single Payer is a diverse group of organizations united in support of universal coverage but in opposition to legislation that would create a Single Payer Healthcare System in New York.

The group supports universal healthcare coverage for all New Yorkers. It believes healthcare coverage should be provided through a combination of private and government funded health insurance. We support allowing a variety of healthcare coverage options – employer-based, private and public health insurance programs – rather than forcing all New Yorkers to use a single government-run health insurance program.

The goal of The Realities of Single Payer is to provide accurate information on this critical healthcare issue.
