The recently released RAND Corporation estimate of the costs of the NY Health Act, a state-run single-payer health plan, has been hailed as good news by single-payer advocates. A quick review of the estimate may make things look rosy to some (if you consider $139 billion in new taxes a positive outcome) but once you focus on the assumptions used for the estimate, you start to see where there might be a few issues.
